MK-2866 (Ostarine)
Mild SARM, popular for recomposition
Ostarine, also known as MK-2866, is a selective androgen receptor modulator. It works by binding to androgen receptors specifically in muscle and bone tissue, which allows for anabolic effects without the heavy systemic impact on organs like the prostate that traditional steroids carry. Because it has a half life of 24 hours, most users take a single dose once a day, usually in the range of 15 mg to 25 mg. While it is often marketed as the mildest option available, it is not a free lunch and will still cause a measurable dip in natural testosterone production as the weeks progress.
A typical cycle lasts 8 to 12 weeks, and to combat the inevitable suppression, many individuals incorporate a SERM like enclomiphene at 6.25 mg every other day starting around the halfway mark. Or simply use a testosterone base.
Even though ostarine is not a 17-alpha-alkylated compound, it can still put a visible strain on liver enzymes and suppress HDL cholesterol. To mitigate this, taking 1200 mg of NAC and at least 2000 mg of high quality fish oil daily is standard practice.
While the drug does not directly aromatize into estrogen, the shifts in the hormonal environment can occasionally lead to nipple sensitivity or itching. For this reason, keeping a SERM on hand is recommended.
